Stanley increase Ethan’s confidence through the Joy of moving

“I always look forward to Stanley coming into school, as their sessions are really fun and help me learn and get better.’’

Ethan, 10, has recently taken part in the Joy of moving, Move and Learn programme with his year 5 class at Peel Park in Accrington. He spent 6 weeks learning about physical activity, healthy eating, hydration and demonstrating how to lead a healthy active lifestyle.

The Joy of moving programme includes a classroom sessions and practical element taking part in P.E lessons playing fun games and showing different ways to be active.

When Accrington Stanley Community Trust started the classroom sessions, Ethan seemed to be a quiet member of the class, not putting his hand up too much and only getting involved when pushed to do so.

However, in the practical sessions, he seemed like a totally different person. He was throwing himself into any challenges set, demonstrating his skills and working well with others.

As the weeks went on you could really see Ethan growing in confidence during the practical element and this reflected in the classroom sessions where you could see Ethan was excited to be a part of the Move and Learn programme with his class.

“I always look forward to Stanley coming into school, as their sessions are really fun and help me learn and get better.’’

As the programme progressed, his hand started to go up more and more and he was happy to get involved with all tasks and worked well with his classmates. He also showed a real hunger to learn how he could lead a healthy active lifestyle, and wanted to know more about it.

Josh Cooper, Stanley Trust’s Community Sports Officer said:

“Ethan really came out of his shell when participating in physical activity. You can see how much he enjoyed it, how he wants to challenge himself and improve on his skills. He is also a great team player and brings out the best in others around him due to his encouragement and positive behaviour.”

Since taking part in the Joy of moving Move and Learn programme, Ethan has started to attend soccer schools during school holidays, working on his football skills and playing fun games to keep himself active. He is also now actively involved playing football for his local youth team, Hyndburn Youth and Huncoat United.

He clearly has a passion for football and his confidence has really grown thanks to this Joy of moving programme.
