Young People Take Action This Weekend

This weekend thousands of young people across EFL communities will be giving up their time to make a positive impact in their area. Tackling issues such as homelessness, loneliness, the environment, cultural divides and mental health, teens will be taking action as part of NCS Action Day, a national movement organised by National Citizen Service (NCS).

NCS Action Day is an annual event which aims to showcase the true power of young people as NCS graduates use their skills and experience they gained on the programme to continue to make positive changes in their local area.

Despite the challenging times and restrictions, EFL Trust Club Community Organisations (CCOs) and other youth organisations have worked closely with young people from NCS to plan innovative projects that will still make a difference in their community. Here is just flavour of some of the projects that will be happening across the country;

• At Charlton Athletic, young people will be getting handy creating bee hotels, bird boxes and planting seeds for bees in an effort to support their local wildlife.
• Young People from Portsmouth will be calling out the numbers as they host a virtual bingo at a care home to provide some entertainment for the residents in an effort tackle loneliness.
• Young People on the coast from Southend and Blackpool will be looking after their seafront by doing a beach clean and litter pick so that the local community can continue to enjoy their natural attractions.
• In Wakefield, young people have worked out that the average amount of money a homeless person would get on the streets is around £3. They plan to live off £3 for that day to help raise awareness of homelessness in their local area.
• Young People from Leeds have teamed up with other young people from Leeds Rhinos and Yorkshire Cricket Club to spread the love by creating a positive message mural on a wall using paint.
• Rugby and Football come together at Huddersfield as young people from Huddersfield Town and Giants will be out in their community doing random acts of kindness. This includes; buying food for homeless people, donating to food banks, help families connect online, and litter picking.

Throughout the pandemic, young people on NCS with EFL Trust have been at the forefront to support their local community and NCS Action Day is another showcase of the impact young people can make.
