We understand that all children are different. Some love sport. Some don’t. We believe in the power of play to unlock children’s potential.
It is important to be active throughout our lives and to start early. In their early years, (birth to 5 years) children should be active for 180 minutes each day. Providing young children with fun engaging chances to think creatively and experience moving, jumping, throwing, catching and kicking can help to build confidence and understanding that can last a lifetime.
Children are naturally curious and enjoy developing their own games. To encourage them to develop movement and thinking skills, children should be provided with the space to play, the resources and equipment to play with, and the encouragement to be creative. Rather than offering children prescriptive games targeting specific skill sets, we should encourage and support them to explore their own ideas about movement play.
We are seeing a worrying trend of children starting their school life as overweight or obese. The rates of childhood Type II diabetes are increasing year on year. According to researchers, many children in schools are lacking the necessary physical skills to enable them to get the most out of their education. In primary schools across the country, children have been observed lacking the core strength needed to sit still, concentrate and support themselves in a seated position.
We are helping our network of club charities to support pre-school children and their parents.
